Roy OrbisonSun Records released Orbison's first single in 1956. "Ooby Dooby" was a hit, but his follow-up recordings with Sam Phillips did not sell very well. Orbison left Sun and tried his hand as a songwriter. His song "Claudette" was a hit for the Everly Brothers in 1958. In the early 1960s, Orbison teamed with songwriter Joe Melson and the two penned a number of hits recorded by Orbison including "Only The Lonely (Know How I Feel)." "Pretty Woman," released in 1964, became Orbison's biggest hit. In 1987, Orbison was inducted in to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and in 1988 he recorded with Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and George Harrison as a member of the Traveling Wilburys. Orbison died in December of 1988. His Mystery Girl album, released in 1989, became the best selling record of his career and spawned two top ten hits. Links:
